SUMMARY:Introducing Bob Doubles
DESCRIPTION:Ever wanted to learn how to ring Bob Doubles on an inside bell?\nOr maybe you can think of someone in your tower who does?\nThis half day course will take you through the theory and practice of ringing Plain Bob Doubles on an ‘inside’ bell (not the treble or the tenor).\nTo be eligible to secure your place on the course the course tutors require you to have a minimum standard of being able to plain hunt from any bell using rope sight\, rhythm and counting places in the change (not by memorising the order or bell numbers).\nTo secure a place on the course which costs £5 per student (payable on the day) which will also cover the cost of tea/coffee. Booking is essential as there will be an extremely limited number of places to guarantee the required amount of tuition per student\, please email: wdsec@tdgr.org.uk \nCall for helpers – we will also be requiring many\, many helpers to ensure we make the day as positive and fun as possible. Helpers – to volunteer\, please get in touch with wdsec@tdgr.org.uk to receive details and itinerary of the day. \nThis course will be run by Martin Spittle and Val Williams\, who are very friendly and encouraging tutors.

SUMMARY:Carol Service
DESCRIPTION:All welcome to attend the Guild Carol Service this year held at Kenwyn and we’re extremely excited to welcome Bishop Philip! \nKenwyn Church bells were refurbished earlier this year (£20\,000) appeal\, and have been ringing again since July. \nThere will be general ringing from 4.00-5.00pm on 11th December with tea and cake available.\nAt 5.00pm there will be a “Nine Lessons and Carols” type service\, and we’re anticipating that Bishop Philip will offer a short homily and prayers of thanksgiving/re-dedication for the work to the bells.\nThe Service will be followed by mulled apple juice and mince pies.\nAll very welcome to attend\, please do come along. \nNorman Mattingley\, Kenwyn Tower Captain writes… \n“There will be refreshments \, tea/coffee cake etc (but not a ringers tea) from about 4.00 pm (designed for those who have spent the afternoon shopping in town) and mince pies are to be served after the service with mulled apple juice. I understand that some Guild members are planning to bring their own ‘fortification’ to add to the apple juice but that is entirely unofficial. The Diocesan Bishop who is also the Patron of our Guild is to be at the service but he has also expressed a wish to meet the ringers and the opportunity is possibly there with either cake or mince pie in hand. Bribes for introductions may be the custom in other parts of society but regretfully not with us. I suspect a donation plate may be found somewhere! \nThere will be ringing both before and after the service so that we may all impress the Bishop with our talents and it is our wish that if you have not ‘tried’ our refurbished bells\, you take this opportunity to have a ring. \nIt would be lovely if we could get volunteers from all districts to read very short lessons as part of the service. Please get in touch with secretary@tdgr.org.uk if you would like to read one – there are six to read in total! \nPlease come along and join in. We expect you to enjoy it. It will be so much better if we are able to fill the church.” \nNorman

SUMMARY:Western District Annual Dinner
DESCRIPTION:Covid safety permitting\, we hope to hold the Western District Annual Dinner at a new venue this year\, the recently refurbished Old Quay House\, Hayle TR27 6JG. This should give more towers easier access to the dinner\, being close to the A30 and with ample parking\, rather than being in the far depths of Penzance. The Old Quay House also has a lift\, for those sampling a few Tributes too many.\nMenu and prices to follow dreckly.

SUMMARY:Ring out for Climate Change!
DESCRIPTION:Our Diocese has requested that we encourage as many of our TDGR members to be able to ring their bells at 6pm on the 30th of October for 30 minutes (or longer).\nBishop Hugh writes: \n“I would be delighted if church bells were to be rung across the Diocese to mark the beginning of COP26. COP26 is a critical moment for the whole of creation\, with decisions to be made that will affect whether people and nature have a chance of avoiding the worst effects of climate change\, decisions that will have the greatest impact on the poorest and most vulnerable communities around the world.\nChurches in Cornwall were very involved in the G7 meeting\, which took place here in June\, sending the leaders off to Glasgow with our prayers and encouragement. I would welcome church bells ringing to welcome the wider group of countries and groups who will be at COP26\, as well as ringing our alarm at the emergency before us.” \nWe however recognise that not every incumbent maybe happy with this\, so we encourage TCs to ask and have the conversation.\nA great excuse for arranging a call change performance or quarter peal! If you do\, please put them on Bellboard\, so we can include them in the guild performance reports.\nAgain\, this is another excuse and opportunity to advertise why you are ringing to your local community and invite local people to find out more about ringing and maybe even start to learn!\nIf you need any help with local PR\, please contact Jane McCutchan our TDGR Public Relations OFficer on pro@tdgr.org.uk
