SUMMARY:Ring out for Climate Change!
DESCRIPTION:Our Diocese has requested that we encourage as many of our TDGR members to be able to ring their bells at 6pm on the 30th of October for 30 minutes (or longer).\nBishop Hugh writes: \n“I would be delighted if church bells were to be rung across the Diocese to mark the beginning of COP26. COP26 is a critical moment for the whole of creation\, with decisions to be made that will affect whether people and nature have a chance of avoiding the worst effects of climate change\, decisions that will have the greatest impact on the poorest and most vulnerable communities around the world.\nChurches in Cornwall were very involved in the G7 meeting\, which took place here in June\, sending the leaders off to Glasgow with our prayers and encouragement. I would welcome church bells ringing to welcome the wider group of countries and groups who will be at COP26\, as well as ringing our alarm at the emergency before us.” \nWe however recognise that not every incumbent maybe happy with this\, so we encourage TCs to ask and have the conversation.\nA great excuse for arranging a call change performance or quarter peal! If you do\, please put them on Bellboard\, so we can include them in the guild performance reports.\nAgain\, this is another excuse and opportunity to advertise why you are ringing to your local community and invite local people to find out more about ringing and maybe even start to learn!\nIf you need any help with local PR\, please contact Jane McCutchan our TDGR Public Relations OFficer on pro@tdgr.org.uk

SUMMARY:How can we be the best teachers for our students?
DESCRIPTION:Click here to join session \nIn this talk\, Arthur Reeves will draw upon his experience as a secondary school teacher and recent educational research. He will consider what we in the ringing community might reflect upon in order to becoming the most effective teachers possible.\nThe talk will cover:\n• What actually is teaching? (and why can’t people just do what we tell them to!)\n• How our mind learns\n• The difference between hearing and listening\, telling and understanding\n• What are the key features of effective feedback?\n• How can we tell if someone has learnt something? \nNB This is not a talk on how to teach bell-handling or teach bellringing per se.

SUMMARY:WAR AND COVID A 'Long View' of Restrictions on Ringing by Robert Wellen
DESCRIPTION:There is a programme on BBC Radio 4 called ‘Click here to join sessionThe Long View’. In it\, a contemporary event or phenomenon is taken and compared to historical events which appear to have some similarities. For this talk I apply this format to our recent situation in comparison to the last time the British State intervened to regulate the ringing of church bells\, between 1940 and 1943. Robert has been Master of the Salisbury Diocesan Guild of Ringers since 2015. He lives in Gillingham in north Dorset. He has rung since a teenager and has rung over 1500 quarter peals. He has a lifelong interest in history and a Masters degree in the subject from Lancaster University.

SUMMARY:Alan Regin talks Rolls of Honour with particular reference to Cornwall
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fascinating talk by Alan Regin about Rolls of Honour with particular reference to Cornwall. \nAlan has been\, since the age of 10\, a very keen and active ringer\, learning to ring at Ottershaw\, Surrey\, and now\, for over 40 years\, living in London. He has rung 6\,129 peals\, over 500 of these in the United States of America! The Rolls of Honour are three hand written books that remember ringers that fell during the Great War (2 Books) and WWII (1 Book)\, they are normally kept at St Pauls Cathedral\, London\, and further details are available on-line via the Central Council website. As Steward of the Rolls of Honour the job is looking after the books but it has always been Alan’s aim that we should properly remember ringers that died during these conflicts and prevent them from being “a list of names”\, hence the considerable research that has taken place. This talk explains more about the books\, the research and the ringers themselves. It also touches on the work of the Commonwealth War Graves commission and links to the Ypres Memorial Bells project. \nThis talk will be recorded\, if you wish to watch and listen live\, but do NOT wish to become part of the recording\, please select STOP VIDEO and MUTE. \nClick here to join the Zoom webinar
