Very sadly, we recently lost Terry Darke of Landulph. When I began to learn to ring Terry was one of the people I “learnt my trade” with. He was always around giving support and encouragement and in 2013 became Tower Captain at Landulph following the passing of Les Clark.

For many years he and his wife Doreen organised the yearly Landulph Ringing Week which encompassed good Call Change ringing for ringers from the local area (and a few beyond). Doreen booked a 57 seater coach and we visited many areas within the UK – Yorkshire, Hereford, Isle of Wight, and Cheltenham to name a few. We rang at 5 or 6 towers each day, including Minsters and Cathedrals, with “ringers off the coach first” being the standard daily comment. There are so many stories I could relate but the website is not big enough!
Terry regularly supported other churches in our Benefice for weddings, funerals etc and he enjoyed my Call Change Peal days in the years before COVID. In 2007 he was proud of our ‘peal’ at Tavistock which was our first as a group of 10, and also delighted to ring the 2nd at St. Buryan in 2013, remarking afterwards “a proper job on they’re great gurt bells”. Unfortunately, in more recent times he only rang at Landulph on a Sunday so we did not see him around so often, although when Sarah and I moved to Hatt we did bump into them both from time to time. RIP Terry.
The Northern District improvers held at practice at Tintagel with it’s beautiful picturesque location.
The Eastern District practice was at Stoke Climsland on the 26th February with over 30 ringers attending. The home team did us proud providing delicious home-made cakes and biscuits.
28th February saw the Youth Team busy in action down at Penzance and the Central District had their practice at Bodmin.
Also worth a mention is that the single ringable bell at St Elwyn’s, Hayle has been rehung on ball bearings and will be rung regularly for Services.
