The Eastern District held their AGM on Saturday, 2nd March at St. Stephens, Saltash. Thanks to all who provided the refreshments. There was a cracking turnout from all over our district and the Guild as a whole. Richard Warwick stood down as Chairman and is replaced by Kevin Edwards who I wish well in his new role.
Richard became acting Chairman in 2010 and officially elected as Eastern District Chairman in 2011. I would personally like to thank him for his 14 years of service and for being our Standing Committee representative. Richard has done many things for our art but the one I most remember, at District level, is when he master-minded, organised and scored the ringing of Quarter Peals in every tower in the East (apart from one which was overcome by Robin Woods, Kevan Borlase and myself ringing a ‘lapping’ QP on handbells in the ringing room of said Church). All this was done to celebrate the Centenary Year in 1997.
Claire Below, Youth Officer, together with the help of Hayley Y, held a youth practice (RWNYC) at Lanivet on the 16th March. Great to see that our younger members are ringing together and I look forward to more practices in the future.
Jemma, our acting Education Officer, ran a very successful Striking and Listening Zoom session. For all those who are interested and maybe missed this one the link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4Q_WTlslsw
23rd March saw me travelling up North for their District AGM at Lanteglos-by-Camelford. I would like to congratulate Julian Trick on being elected Chairman and Liz Gliddon and Sue Shadrick were re-elected. Robert Corney gave the meeting 12 months’ notice as Ringing Master.
The same day the Central District held their AGM at St. Austell (couldn’t make both). Here Robert Perry was elected as Chairman and Jonathan Young as Ringing Master. Bryony Dorrington and Sue Britchford were also re-elected. Good to see all these positions filled as many have been vacant for some time.
And finally, I would like to wish all our members and friends a very Happy Easter season.
Keep ringing!
Owen Borlase
Guild President
