Presidents Blog May 2022

I was delighted and humbled, that due to my time as President being so adversely affected by COVID, I was offered the unusual step of having my term as President extended for a 4th yr, which was proposed and unanimously accepted at our Guild AGM.

Our Guild AGM had a positive atmosphere, and it was nice to hear that we had handed out 38 new learner certificates who had become members of our Guild in the last 12 months. A big thank you to Hayley Young for organising our AGM, and to Bodmin for hosting the day, and providing a wonderful tea. A good selection of cakes, buns and scones were provided to a good standard by those who entered the Cake off competition, and many thanks to the Pillaton and St.Mellion hand bell ringers for keeping us entertained.

The courses run on the day were much appreciated by those who took part. The “Raise and lower in Peal” course that I ran, covering theory as well as practical sessions, was attended by 14 people (2 of which are members of our Guild Youth Group run by Claire Below) and my thanks to several helpers, and to St.Tudy for hosting the event, and for keeping us supplied with the teas, coffee and cake that went down well.

We have a busy year ahead of us, as I write the Queens Platinum Jubilee is fast approaching, and it’ll be lovely to hear all the many bells ringing out in celebration.

Another big date for us will be 8th Oct. when the Guild will be celebrating 125yrs. since it’s formation. Hopefully, we can combine this historic event with some publicity to the wider community, and use it to help with Recruitment.

Sam Nankervis
Guild President.
