President’s Blog

My 3-year term as President of the TDGR is coming to an end, and we’re now looking for a candidate/nominations for a successor.at our AGM on 21st May at Bodmin.

It has been a privilege to serve you as President, a role I have much enjoyed, and the time has flown by. My only regret, is that it coincided with the difficult time of Covid, meaning I could not meet as many members as I would have wished to, particularly in the Eastern and Northern Districts, as I feel there is still much to do in getting us working closer together as a Guild to give everyone the support they need.
Going forward, recruitment is a big issue we need to address, but does not need to be a complicated one. Sometimes it’s the simple things that work the best. Let non-ringers know that you are a bell ringer, and what you enjoy about it, to see if they have ever thought of giving it a go? Quite often it’s the “face to face” personal chat that gets a result.
Hopefully, I will see you all at this yrs. Spring festivals, which I’m very much looking forward to.

AGM Bodmin 21st May.
I’m working hard alongside our Guild Sec. Hayley Young to make this year’s Guild AGM more varied to encourage more people to attend and enjoy the day out.
We’re planning a “Bake off” where individuals and towers are encouraged to submit a cake as a bit of fun, no prizes, and can be judged for a top 3 place. These cakes can then go towards our ringer’s tea, so please let us know if you are entering, to give Bodmin an idea towards other catering. We have booked the renowned St.Mellion and Pillaton hand bell ringers to ring some of their delightful ringing.
I have decided that this year’s AGM will not have a church service, as I do not wish for the day to be too long. Instead, I feel now that ringing has started once more, we need to “kick start” our Guild back to life, by concentrating on recruitment and teaching to progress the Guild into the future, and not stand still.
It is with this thought, we are opening other towers on the day of the AGM in the Bodmin area, covering various activities, which will be confirmed nearer the time.
We wish for this to be inclusive, so learners are welcome to come along for a bit of extra tuition in another tower.

Hope to see you all there,
Sam Nankervis
TDGR President.
